Robert D. Field, a Collinsville resident, was honored by Home Federal Savings & Loan recently for 50 consecutive years of service on its board of directors. Field is serving as board chairman and plans to continue serving in that capacity.

Home Federal Savings & Loan serves Madison and St. Clair counties. It is headquartered at 100 E. Clay St. in Collinsville and has a branch office at 2110 N. Center St. in Maryville. The institution was founded in 1887.

EDUCATION

Sandy Pringle, a 26-year veteran of the Edwardsville School District 7 and a 20-year veteran of Edwardsville High School, has retired.

Her connection with the school district began more than 30 years ago when she

volunteered regularly at Leclaire Elementary, the school her sons attended.

Pringle became an employee in 1983, working as a media center clerk at Glen Carbon Elementary School. She also worked

in the media centers at Hamel Elementary School and Edwardsville High before becoming financial secretary at the high school.

She also was involved in establishing the

Edwardsville Federation of Secretarial Employees, the district’s secretarial union, in 1993. Pringle served as president of the union from 1993 until her retirement.

LEGAL

- Bradley C. Allen, of Blake And Allen P.C., Attorneys at Law, attended the Oil, Gas and Mineral Land Law Seminar on Dec. 16. The firm concentrates on estates and trusts, estate planning, family law, tax law, real estate, business law and general law. It has offices in Belleville, Collinsville, Edwardsville and Waterloo.

- Joe O’Keefe, shareholder at Mathis, Marfian, Richter & Grandy Ltd., a Belleville-based law firm, was recently appointed Chairman of the 2009-2010 Federal Taxation Section Council for the Illinois State Bar Association.

The mission of the ISBA Federal Taxation Section is to inform and advise members of the bar on developments in federal taxation; to review and comment on federal tax laws, regulations, court decisions and Internal Revenue Service pronouncements and practices; and to monitor improvement and understanding of the federal tax system through proposals of, and changes in, tax laws and regulations.

O’Keefe joined MMR&G in 2002. He focuses his practice on wills and trusts, estate and gift tax planning, probate, trust administration and corporate and business law.

FINANCES

Nicol Financial Services held its 2009 Annual Compliance Meeting and Convention Oct. 8-10 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. Attending were registered representatives and licensed associates from all affiliated business entities, including: Nicol Investors Corporation, Nicol Advisors Corporation, and Kevin G. Nicol and Associates Inc. With 12 branch offices, roughly 70 Nicol associates were in attendance. The company is licensed in 10 states, with plans of adding more in 2010.

HEALTH CARE

Petersen Health Care employees helped raise $30,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The campaign is part of an annual effort at each of the company’s 92 midwestern facilities, including Collinsville Rehab and Health Care Center, at 614 Summit Ave.

The employees of the local health care center won three awards from Petersen Health Care. The awards were: Most Improved Facility of Petersen Health Care, runner-up for Most Outstanding State Survey and runner-up for Petersen Pet Peeves.

Jifi C. Jacob is the administrator, Kari Pinkerton is the director of nursing and Suzie Halwachs is the community relations coordinator.

The center has 24-hour skilled nursing care; physical, occupational and speech therapies and is the only nursing home to serve the Collinsville community.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

The Chamber of Commerce of Southwestern Madison County’s business of the month is Prairie Farms Dairy, located at 1800 Adams St.

Bob Kmetz is the dairy’s general manager. The company has been in business for 72 years; it started in Carlinville in 1938 and now has 37 plants in 14 states.

RECREATION

The Little Gym, which has locations in the Collinsville area, was ranked first in the Children’s Fitness category in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Franchises List, otherwise known as Franchise 500. This is the fourth consecutive year the franchise company has earned this ranking.

The Little Gym offers classes for children from 4 months to 12 years old. Programs range from parent-child classes in early motor skill development to grade school gymnastics, sports skills development, karate, cheerleading and dance.

LEADERSHIP

The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, an economic development organization for the St. Louis Metro East area, has chosen new leadership for 2010. Members unanimously approved five new officers to serve one-year terms, including Mark Tade as the president of the organization. Tade, manager of Employee Relations, U.S. Steel-Granite City Works, most recently served as the Leadership Council’s vice president.

The additional officers chosen include:

- Chairman, Vaughn Vandegrift, chancellor of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

- Vice President, Gerry Schuetzenhofer, president, Coldwell Banker Brown Realtors;

- Secretary, Richard Sauget Sr., president, East County Enterprises;

- Treasurer, Dale Stewart, executive secretary/treasurer, Southwestern Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council.

The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois is a member-based, economic development corporation representing Madison and St. Clair counties.
